System General
The system configuration items listed below are employed to offer services across the entire system. Based on the specific needs of the network, a selection or the entirety of these features might be deployed to enhance functionality and security.
Timezone
The configuration settings of the appliance enable the adjustment of the CyberEdge's timezone. Although the timezone is usually set during the initial setup, it can be modified later if necessary. It's important to be aware that altering the timezone necessitates a complete reboot of the CyberEdge appliance before they will take effect. Therefore, such changes should be planned for and executed only during an appropriate maintenance period. To modify the timezone settings navigate to;
- System > General > Appliance Settings
- Select a new timezone
- Click "Save" and "apply Changes"
- Reboot the CyberEdge via System > General > Reboot
Reboot required
- A full system reboot is required
- It may take up to 5 minutes for the full reboot process to complete
Brute Force Protection
Protecting Web Application logins against brute force attacks is an essential security strategy aimed at preventing unauthorized access through trial-and-error attempts, such as dictionary attacks, at guessing login details. This defense mechanism uses various methods to identify, obstruct, and counteract such intrusion efforts. The Brute Force Protection system is used to protect the CyberEdge Management User Interface, Reporting Application and LiveZone portal. To configure Brute Force Protection navigate to;
- System > General > Bute Force Protection
- Enable the feature
- Configure the initial time to ban. Default 1 Min: This is the amount of time the client IP attempting brute force access will be banned for on the first attempt.
- Repeat offence time to ban Default 1 Day: This is the amount of time the client IP attempting brute force access will be banned for where a second attempt has been detected
Network administrators should consider leverage tighter access controls to restrict unnecessary access to any Web Applications. To do so, additional articles on how to secure access to the CyberEdge management interface can be found here
Note
- To manage active IP Bans go to Status > Banned IP addresses
- To view Brute Force IP ban events and history go to Reporting > Security > IP Bans
