Configuration Backups

The CyberEdge allows network administrators to create full configuration backup files of the system. If the CyberEdge is deployed in a HA Active/Passive deployment, the configuration backup file generated will be that of the primary active node at the time of downloading the backup file. It is strongly recommended that network administrators take regular configuration backups to enable quick recovery in the event of a system failure.

Create Configuration Backup

To create a configuration backup file of your CyberEdge appliance perform the following:

  1. Navigate to System > General > Backup and Restore
  2. Download the configuration backup file
  3. The configuration backup file will be downloaded to your default download location

Configuration Backup File

All CyberEdge configuration backup files are encrypted. Configuration backup files are saved using the following filename format.

config-backup-hostname-0.15.2-2023-08-29.crypt

The CyberEdge configuration backup file naming convention is as follows;

  • Config-backup: Identify that it is a configuration backup file
  • Hostname: The hostname of the CyberEdge from which the backup file was generated
  • Firmware Version: The firmware version of the CyberEdge configuration backup
  • Date: The date the backup file was generated

Restore Configuration

Before restoring a configuration backup, you should ensure the firmware version of the CyberEdge matches that of your configuration backup file. To restore the configuration of a CyberEdge appliance perform the following;

  1. Navigate to System > General > Backup and Restore
  2. Click Choose file
  3. Select the backup file you wish to restore

The configuration will be restored immediately after upload

Important information

  • In the event your CyberEdge firmware needs re-installation, contact CyberEdge support for access to the required firmware version
  • CyberEdge (or Superloop) does not take or store configuration backups of CyberEdge appliances. Network administrators should take regular configuration backups and store in a secure location
  • CyberEdge configuration backup files are encrypted by default
  • The firmware version of the CyberEdge should match that of the configuration backup file being restored
  • Restoring a full configuration backup may incur a small network outage

Restore Configuration in HA

Where the CyberEdge is deployed in a HA Active/Passive cluster, configuration cannot be restored directly to the secondary node. Configuration will be synchronized from the primary active node when the secondary node is joined to the cluster. To restore the cluster and configuration, use the following join process;

  1. From the management interface of the secondary node navigate to System > Nodes > Node Actions
  2. Click Join Cluster
  3. Enter the management IP of the primary active node you want to join
  4. Provide a hostname for the secondary node that is being joined to the cluster
  5. Enter an IP address that will be used for the management user interface once the cluster has been joined
  6. Click Join

The cluster join process will begin the configuration synchronization immediately and may take several minutes to complete

Important information

  • Both nodes must have unique management IPs and share the same management subnet
  • You must ensure the firmware version installed matches that of the primary active node before attempting to join a cluster
  • Only applied configuration will be synchronized from the primary active node. Any staged changes will be lost
