SNMP
Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is an Internet Standard protocol used for collecting and organizing information of managed devices on networks. The CyberEdge supports SNMPv2c for monitoring and alerting purposes. For information on the necessary MIBs (Management Information Bases) that need to be integrated into the SNMP manager for accurate interpretation of the data collected from the firewall, please consult the Supported MIBs section.
Configure SNMP
To configure SNMP monitoring of your CyberEdge appliance, navigate to;
- Services > SNMP
- Set "Enable SNMPv2c" to on. SNMP monitoring port will default to 161.
- Specify an allowed network zone to which the SNMP service will be exposed for scanning.
- Specify an allowed network to which the SNMP service will be exposed for scanning.
- Provide a community string from your monitoring platform for read only access to SNMP data
- Click “Save” and apply changes
SNMP should now be accessible to your SNMP monitoring platform.
Security Recommendation
- It is highly recommended to never expose SNMP services to the Internet, as this can lead to unauthorized access, DoS attacks, and amplification attacks
- Always restrict access to the SNMP service to specified monitoring application IP's or management networks
